Our beloved Martina was referred with severe tricuspid valve insufficiency due to valve dysplasia as well as atrial septal defect.
Tricuspid valve disease is a heart condition in which the valve between the two right heart chambers (right ventricle and right atrium) does not function properly.
In Martina’s case, tricuspid valve dysplasia is a rare form of congenital heart disease that affects the tricuspid valve with a wide range of severity. Specifically, in this tricuspid valve dysplasia, the valve is not properly constructed and is in a lower than normal position, resulting in blood reflux and strain on the heart and the patient.
